Over Columbus Day weekend, the family and I packed up the car and went on vacation to Preston, Connecticut. It was the first vacation we had gone on in over 5 years. With the Autumn atmosphere setting in, the scenery was more picturesque than I imagined. Reds, oranges, and yellows colored the trees everywhere you looked. Homes and shops were designed with old, colonial architecture. No doubt about it, it was one of the best times of the year to visit.
Upon arriving at our rented little home at a campground named Strawberry Park, the fam and I took the rest of the day getting settled. Bright and early Saturday morning however, we drove to a nearby town called Mystic. Our first stop was the Olde Mistick Village, an outdoor shopping center reflecting early America. The Bleu Squid is a must visit when you’re there. Their lobster grilled cheese and cupcakes are to die for!
Next up was a river side ice cream parlor to enjoy the view. With the perfect weather that day, plenty of people were out sailing.
To wrap up a great time in Mystic, the family stopped for lunch at the famous Mystic Pizza. Sound familiar? Yes, it was none other than the pizzeria from the Julia Roberts film “Mystic Pizza”. If only I hadn’t forgotten to take in my camera. :p
