Dressed in Love

Is love really overrated? Either way, one’s wardrobe should certainly reap the benefits of St. Valentine’s holiday. After all, it’s a great excuse to go shopping ;).

The first look is the one that I would wear for the festivities. Adding some subtle lace underneath a well-fitting suit is an easy way to vamp up a classic. As for the sneakers, my mind was filled with street style inspiration and how the athletic shoe has transcended work out attire. It’s a great way to combine style and practicality.

If you prefer something more on the colorful side, you can’t go wrong with an LRD (little red dress). The quirky Kate Spade clutch was the main influence for the second look. Keeping the rest of the pieces light makes for a quick way to be ready for a night on the town.

My Favorite Looks at the 2015 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes red carpet never fails to impress. Some stylists opted to dress their celebrities in a more classic look while others took greater risks. Lorde immediately caught my eye in her glamorous and slightly oversized suit and diamond accents. Jessica Chastain radiated an old Hollywood vibe in her bronze Atelier Versace gown. What was your favorite look of the night?

AllSaints Makes My Heart Skip a Beat

November has been a month of discoveries for me, and one of those discoveries was a brand called AllSaints. I first heard of it when I saw Lucy Liu wearing a variety of its garments on Elementary. AllSaints is a British retailer with a cool and edgy style. One of the things I really love is the versatility of the pieces. When purchasing new additions to my wardrobe, I’m the type of person who expects them to last for years to come. I like being able to integrate them into countless different looks and AllSaints feels as if they design with that in mind.

My top AllSaints picks:

allsaints1.jpg

Hyde Monument Coat, $650.00

allsaints4.jpg

Window Top, $75.00

allsaints2.jpg

Zaphir Dress, $360.00

allsaints3.jpg

Kayla Shirt, $140.00

Most of the designs are based on structural elements. They are generally sold in muted colors, but their shapes and textures make them immensely far from boring. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to splurge on an AllSaints garment or two someday. Have any of my top picks caught your eye? They certainly have mine.

allsaints5.jpg

Axel Leather Biker Jacket, $725.00

allsaints6.jpg

Raffi Leggings, $75.00

allsaints7.jpg

Hafbec Dress, $215.00

allsaints8.jpg

Mast/Slashed Grey, $160.00

My Style Icons – Part 2

Finally, It’s part two of my style icons series! I was at a major indecision about who to feature next, but I’ll have to save the rest for part three.

Melanie Martinez

I personally discovered an up and coming musician recently by the name of Melanie Martinez. She was a contestant on season three of The Voice and has since released her debut EP, Dollhouse. Martinez’s song Carousel continues to be on my iPod’s repeat cycle. Her fashion sense blends retro with modern alternative flair. From oversized bows to doll heads to her signature two-toned hair, it’s hard to believe that Martinez is just getting started.

The entire Alexander McQueen brand

If I had to choose a favorite fashion design house, it would have to be Alexander McQueen. Despite McQueen’s tragic death back in 2010, the brand has stayed strong in the capable hands of its current head designer, Sarah Burton. The surprising elegance and essence of surrealism that the brand delivers is pure artistry. The amount of precise detailing that goes into the garments makes the already innovative looks all the more special. I always look forward to the design house’s runway show during fashion week.

Home Run Hats

Sports have always been a part of my life, especially baseball. I’ve attended many live games of America’s pastime, but one that I remember most was when I saw the New York Yankees play back when their old stadium was still standing. Those memories were all brought back to me when I participated in a campaign to construct the perfect baseball game day style for Fanatics, the leading online retailer for everything sports. I was tasked with picking the hat of my choice from the great selection Fanatics offers on their MLB hats page and pairing it with clothing and accessories to showcase my baseball-inspired outfits.

Scrolling through an array MLB hats, I was surprised to see how much Fanatics has available for baseball fans. I eventually decided on the New Era New York Yankees Galaxy 59FIFTY Fitted Hat. I love that hat not only because it shows off its wearer’s NY Yankees team spirit, but also because its stand-out print immediately caught my eye. I created two looks for a truly unique New York Yankees fan. Enjoy!

My Style Icons – Part 1

In the fashion industry, it’s important to know what it is you want to say about yourself and your work. As I’ve been pinpointing my interests and developing my personal style, I’ve found several style mavens that influence me and have introduced me to new ways of thinking about fashion.

Lykke Li

When deciding who to feature in this post, one of my favored musicians immediately came to mind. Lykke Li is undoubtedly unique in both her style and her sound. Her fashion sense is simplistic with a twist. Li sticks mainly to black and white pieces, but keeps things interesting with a mixture of structured and free-flowing shapes. She hits the mark when it comes to experimenting with textures as well. Just like with her music, Lykke Li leaves no room for gimmicks and instead focuses on quality. She says herself in an interview with Vogue, “I need to travel light but still feel empowered – there’s no space for frills or colours; quality above all!”.

Luanna Perez

Luanna Perez is the creator of the popular style blog Le Happy. Since 2010, she has been sharing her alternative fashion sense and has since gained a large fan base. Perez has a talent for taking her clothing to the next level and presenting the unexpected. Her look gives off a cool girl vibe that I find particularly fascinating. Her fondness for trendy shoes and accessories such as creepers, round lens sunglasses, and chunky knit beanies is also a plus.

My Favorite Fall 2014 Couture Collections

Fall 2014’s couture collections flooded the runways of Paris last week. Dazzling pieces of many structures and colors made my mind drift into elegant fantasies. Among the many showcases, three collections in particular peaked my interest.

1. Chanel

One can always count on Chanel to create futuristic yet timeless designs. The design house’s signature tweed was featured in several looks. The more formal pieces were embellished with plenty of jewels and shiny materials. Sandals fastened with ribbons, messy tomboy hair, and small, backward caps were worn by every model.

2. Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad is a favorite among celebrities for his sleek and sexy dresses. See-through fabrics maximized the “wow” factor of classy styles in this collection. Glitter and sequin material accents made the garments feel even more red carpet ready. The models walked with tight ponytails and not a single piece of jewelry; the dresses spoke for themselves.

3. Armani Privé

My final and unexpected favorite was the Armani Privé show. The color palette consisted of only three colors: black, white, and red. The beautiful and slightly gothic pieces progressed from business fancy to veiled glamour. Ankle strap heels, various handbags and jewelry, and wrist-length gloves were styled in different combinations for each look.

Closet Swap-Seasonal Magic

April showers have brought May flowers and the transition from a Winter to Summer wardrobe. I was approached by a website called Raise.com to participate in their Closet Swap campaign! Raise.com is a marketplace where you can buy discounted gift cards for your favorite brands (https://www.raise.com/buy-gift-cards). You could also sell any of your unused gift cards for cash! Their Closet Swap campaign features the transition from a cold to warm weather wardrobe. For my contribution to the campaign, I decided to wear a loose, fringe top with a lace bandeau and pastel pink shorts underneath; something freeing and easy to move in. My Converse sneakers are both stylish and appropriate for tree climbing. I stayed light on the jewelry with skeleton earrings and several bracelets. Green glitter nail polish completed the look.

Bonus! Here are some of my top Summer accessory tips:

1. Pumped up kicks

Tired of those white laces? Swap out your standard shoelaces for something more colorful. Make sure you find a pair that are the same length as the original laces.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

2. Dial up your nail art

Add designs and patterns to your manicure with a nail stamping kit. All you have to do is paint your favorite color polish over the decal, wipe off the excess with the scraper, and transfer the design from the stamp to your nails.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

3. Dye your hair…temporarily

Colored hair extensions are an interesting and unexpected twist to a look. The extensions pictured below are the ones I used in my Gothic Holiday post. They are made out of real human hair which provides a very realistic result.

Wildest Looks at the 2014 Met Gala

One of the things the Met Gala is famous for is its elaborate red carpet scene. After last year’s fabulous punk theme, I was eager to see what the celebrities’ stylists would have up their sleeve next. My favorite look of the night was Kirsten Dunst’s Death Star gown; which was quite appropriate considering it was Star Wars day on May 4th. May the force be with you!

My Favorite Fall 2013-2014 Trends

Fall doesn’t officially begin until September 22nd, however, the cold weather is already nipping at our heels! While watching some Fall 2013-2014 fashion shows, I reviewed the most popular trends seen on the runway. From minimalism to reviving a few classics, the fashion is as fresh and crisp as the autumn air.

1. Gray is the New Black

Designers demanded that the new base color in your wardrobe be gray. Black and white will never go out of style of course, but there is just something about a smooth shade of gray this season. Instant sophistication comes to mind!

2. Reinventing Fur

Everyone is encouraged to modernize this timeless classic. Unconventional colors, prints, and various textures are seen looking elegant or rocker chick. I would also like to add that I fully support going faux-fur.

3.  The Bolder the Print, the Better!

It seems as if no print is off-limits. Maximize and mix your printed pieces for a “go big or go home” look. Don’t be afraid to experiment. You could put together something that you’d never thought you would like!

4. It’s Easy Being Green

With emerald being the official color of 2013, designers embraced the hue of nature in all types of shades. Green is said to be THE color of the season.

Patricia Field – The Work of an Inspiration

306 on the Bowery. A produce stand on the outside; a wonderland of exciting fashions on the inside. The Patricia Field boutique was worth every step of the 40 blocks my parents and I walked to get there!

Patricia Field was one of the first fashion stylists I ever researched. Seeing her work and hearing her opinions on living life to the fullest made me fall in love with styling even more. Seeing in-person the outcome of decades of dedication to her craft left me inspired to push harder to become what I want to achieve.

I even saw Ms. Field herself in the store! However, being completely starstruck and fearing embarrassment, I decided to wait for another day and time to introduce myself.

Enjoy the photos of the fabulously styled mannequins and comment on your favorite!

Cloudy Day, Summer Fashion

Despite the weatherman calling for rain, it didn’t dampen my longing for summer. The thoughts of relaxing by a pool with a shirley temple wouldn’t escape my mind this week. However, just because the right weather isn’t here yet doesn’t mean I can’t channel the coming season through style!

A black tank top and light blue shorts provided the backdrop for plenty of accessories. Stacked beaded bracelets, a colorful stone necklace, and vintage 1950’s wooden parrot earrings gave a slight tropical feel. My nails were decorated with red polish and green glitter. A Jessica Simpson snakeskin hobo bag and zig-zag wedges completed the look.

Best and Worst Looks at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards

As a fashion junkie, I’m always more excited about the red (or blue) carpet looks than the actual awards show.
