Winter Style

Black Snow

Snow continues to fall as abundant as sunshine on a summer’s day. The world around me carries on muted by the cool silence of winter. Sure, some days the temperature drops down to the single digits, but in a way it’s peaceful. What better way to enjoy it than with some lovely outerwear, wouldn’t you say?

Winter style is often accused of being heavy in dark colors, and for me that is both true and exactly how I like it. Combining a cape with an equally flowy skirt breaks free from the usual stiff cold weather ensembles. Only a black long sleeve was needed underneath since the cape’s textile is already a soft wool. Argyle stockings were an intermission to the solid colors. The ALDO combat boots added some toughness to the feminine elements. The few small bits of color were in a retro radio clutch and blue nail polish.

Leather Love

It’s said that all leathers exhibit their own one-of-a-kind natural markings; that it’s practically impossible to find two samples that share identical surface and color characteristics. This amazingly durable fabric embodies individuality.

Remember the Axel Leather Biker Jacket from AllSaints that I featured in this post? Thanks to the holiday sales, I was over the moon to receive it last year. Its combination of knitted wool and leather does an excellent job of blocking out the northern winter chill. Wearing a black long sleeve underneath, I was ready to brave the cold. I paired it with riding boots and my go-to jeans. Letting the jacket speak for itself, my only accessory was a white and gold clutch from ASOS. As for my makeup, it included a clear lip gloss from Stila and a purple eyeliner from Urban Decay labeled Tornado.

Crochet Corner: Star Gloves

These multi-colored arm warmers are so much fun to wear! Shooting Star Fingerless Gloves I like to call them. Armed with cotton candy swirl yarn (and my bamboo, size I hook), I was determined to make my first pair of gloves. To top them off, I sewed on silver star buttons that line the outside of the arm.

Winter Wonderland

With the cold wave continuing to sweep across Pennsylvania, days for a photo shoot have been practically null. I finally got an opportunity for one yesterday while my parents and I are on a mini-vacation at my grandparent’s log cabin. The only problem was…it was less than 15 degrees outside! With it being so cold, me and my mom (the photographer) continuously would snap a few pictures and then run back inside to warm up before heading out again. Not exactly the finest day to stand still and pose, but a good result came of it.

Only one word came to my mind when deciding what to wear: layers! I pulled on a white sweater over my black long sleeve shirt to provide extra insulation. To keep my feet toasty, I tucked a pair of long socks underneath my leggings. My plaid holiday skirt gave this look a splash of print. The ankle boots are a recent purchase from CL by Chinese Laundry. To top it all off, I layered on a thick, black overcoat and a crochet cupcake scarf I made (pattern by Twinkie Chan).
